Louisville Mindfulness Center is committed to excellence.
All of our providers have a Masters degree (usually a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy or a Master of Science in Social Work) and are Marriage and Family Therapists. The discipline of marriage and family therapy operates from a systemic perspective which sees the interrelatedness of all aspects of a person’s life (the systems in which you belong) – culture, a family of origin, education, career, etc. When life is looked at from this holistic perspective, it is hard to pathologize a person, but rather begin to see patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are no longer working and seek new thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that will likely remedy the situation.
Our providers also work from a mindfulness-based perspective. We do our best to operate from an open-minded, non-judgmental frame of mind. Thanks to mindfulness, we are also very observant and aware of things during sessions that often get overlooked. For instance, our non-verbal communication is 70-90% of what we communicate. This means that our tone of voice, the volume of voice, facial expressions, body posture, and hand movements communicate much more than our actual words. When we are paying attention to our own non0verbal communication, we are better able to observe how we are feeling and slow ourselves down just enough to choose how we want to respond in any given interaction versus reacting without awareness we feel much more in control and empowered.
